JAFAC 2025 is cancelled, and we’re sad about it

This is a hard post to write.

After months of planning and excitement, we’ve made the tough call to cancel JAFAC 2025.

With just six weeks to go, we had sold only 28 tickets — far from the minimum we needed to make the event come together with the vibe JAFAC is known for. We were aiming for 60 people at the very least (ideally closer to 100) to do justice to the incredible speakers we had lined up, and to create the kind of welcoming, buzzing space that makes JAFAC special.

It’s disappointing. Honestly, it’s a bit heartbreaking.

But we also know we’re not alone. Events everywhere — conferences, meetups, workshops — are finding it harder to get traction than in years past. Things feel different. People are different. The way we choose what to go to, how we spend our time (and money), and what we value in real-life gatherings — it’s all shifting.

So we wanted to open this up to you — our community, colleagues and interested randoms — with some genuine questions:

  • What makes you want to go to an event these days?

  • What gets you to say yes, click ‘buy’, or commit your time?

  • Are the kinds of events we used to love just not quite right anymore?

  • What would you love to see more (or less) of?

We’re not done with JAFAC. But we are taking a pause to listen, reflect, and reimagine. If you’ve got thoughts, we’re all ears, drop us a note, leave a comment, or message us.

And to everyone who bought a ticket, cheered us on, or helped us spread the word - thank you. We’re incredibly grateful.

Until next time,
The Nomad8 Team
